Using the U17-5 in Coventry
The U17-5 suits Coventry homes with side access wider than 1.05 m, such as the 1930s redbrick semis of Canley, for footings, drives and drainage runs.
For a new drive, Coventry City Council wants at least 4.0 m from the back of the pavement to the house, and charges £130 to handle a dropped kerb with its own contractor. Once that is agreed, the U17-5 takes out the old surface and the dumper clears it.
Much of Coventry sits on glacial clay and till, which the British Geological Survey warns can settle unevenly, and gypsum in the Mercia Mudstone can attack concrete. Footings here should follow building control and your engineer's spec.
Before the U17-5 arrives
- Measure the access: more than 1.05 m clear for the U17-5.
- Check the 4.0 m driveway depth rule before you apply for a dropped kerb.
- Do a free LinesearchbeforeUdig (LSBUD) search before you dig.
- Book a week if you can: the delivery cost is the same however long you keep it.
Questions we get asked
How much is delivery to Coventry?
£80.32 each way to CV1, ex VAT: 32.4 road miles at £40 for the first 10 and £1.80 for each mile after. We deliver up to 35 road miles from the yard, and checkout prices your postcode.
Is a week better value than paying by the day?
For longer jobs, yes. A week is £295 ex VAT against £220 for three days, and the 4th day is charged at the weekly rate.
What if my access is under a metre?
Choose the K008-5 micro digger, which needs 75 cm. Behind many Coventry terraces that is the one that fits.
Do I need a licence to hire it?
No licence or ticket is needed to hire from us or to operate the machine on private property. We hand over the machine on site, walk you through the controls and the daily checks, and the operator guide stays with the machine.
Do I need insurance?
No insurance needed to hire. You're responsible for the machine while it's with you. You can get a hired-in plant insurance quote at checkout.
Is there a deposit?
No deposit and no trade account. We keep the card you pay with on file and only charge it for damage or loss, under our hire terms.
