What the Kubota U17-5 is for
The Kubota U17-5 is a 1.7 tonne mini digger, and it is the machine most people mean when they say mini digger. It has the reach and the weight for proper groundwork, but it still fits down the side of a house.
Most of our mini digger hires in Wolverhampton are footings for extensions and garden rooms, drainage runs, soakaways and driveway digs. It digs to 2.29m, so it handles foundation trenches that the micro digger cannot reach.
Access: the U17-5 is 99 cm wide with the tracks in — needs a gate wider than 1.05 m. Extend the tracks to 1.3 m before you dig. Measure the narrowest point, including gate posts, downpipes and bins. If you have less than 1.05 m, the K008-5 micro is the one you want.
Where people go wrong: they dig all day and then realise nobody planned where the spoil goes. Book a dumper or a skip at the same time, and decide where the soil ends up before the machine arrives.

Is a mini digger the same as a mini excavator?
Yes. The Kubota U17-5 is a 1.7 tonne mini excavator, the size most people mean by a mini digger. It is self-drive, from £70 a day ex VAT, delivered across Wolverhampton and the West Midlands.
Do I need a licence to hire it?
No licence or ticket is needed to hire from us or to operate the machine on private property. We hand over the machine on site, walk you through the controls and the daily checks, and the operator guide stays with the machine.
Do I need insurance?
No insurance needed to hire. You're responsible for the machine while it's with you. You can get a hired-in plant insurance quote at checkout.
Is there a deposit?
No deposit and no trade account. We keep the card you pay with on file and only charge it for damage or loss, under our hire terms.
What access width do I need?
The U17-5 is 99 cm wide with the tracks in — needs a gate wider than 1.05 m. Extend the tracks to 1.3 m before you dig. If your gateway is tighter than that, our Kubota K008-5 micro digger only needs 75 cm.
Can I add a breaker to the U17-5?
No - our KM55 breaker only fits the K008-5. If your job needs breaking plus digging, hire the K008-5 and KM55 together.
What does delivery cost to Dudley or Walsall?
Transport is £40 each way for the first 10 miles, then £1.80 per mile after that. Dudley and Walsall are both inside the first 10 miles, so both are £40 each way. Checkout prices your exact postcode before you pay.
Is there a weekend rate?
No. We charge for every 24 hours, so there is no weekend rate. Friday to Monday is 3 days: £220 for the mini digger.
